The key never leaves your phone

Your device and your match’s work out a shared key between themselves. It is never sent to us, so there is nothing on our servers to steal or hand over.

Photos are locked too

Not just text. Pictures are scrambled on your phone before they upload, so what sits in our storage is noise, not your photos.

We genuinely cannot read it

This is not a promise not to look. We built it so that looking is impossible, for us and for anyone who ever gets hold of the database.

The trade-off, stated plainly: because the key only lives on your phone, switching phones or reinstalling means older messages and photos can never be opened again. Nobody can recover them, and that is exactly the point. Who you talk to and when is still visible to us. What you said is not.
